I was asked to write about some of my favourite attractions in the Fort Smith area.
I love the beautiful sunrises, sunsets and northern lights that we enjoy frequently. I enjoy the loud thunderstorms and sudden downpours, the hot sun, and flowers and gardens of our long summer days. I enjoy walking the trails around town with my dog in the fresh winter air with a blanket of glistening snow all around us.
And there is so much to do! The museum often has something going on in the lower exhibit area, besides the regular exhibits upstairs. We have a very nice recreation centre with a gymnasium, squash court and my favourite, the curling rink in the winter.
In the summer, you can wander through the Mission Park, take the self-guided tour, see the community garden where people can use garden space to plant their gardens and have a quiet moment at the Grotto.
In the summer, I can sit on “The Rocks” and watch the Pelicans bobbing up and down in the Rapids, or I can take a short hike out of town to the other rapids.
I like to golf the nine holes at the RCMP Golf Course in town, while my husband prefers the Pelican Rapids Golf Course a few kilometres south into Alberta.
